Acrylic Paintings on Canvas, 70 x 100 cm, 100 x 120 cm

I paint outdoors on the Ligurian coast and translate my perceptions of the sea, currents, energy, and movement into abstract, almost musical visual structures. My background in dance, performance and music shapes the physical and rhythmic character of my painting.  Through painting, I explore questions of identity, boundaries and interconnectedness: where does the human body end and the surrounding environment begin?

In search of empathic-dialogical relationships with ‘nature‘, the work of Carolina Goedeke (Berlin/Genoa) dissolves the boundaries between animals, people, cellular structures, oceans, mountains and forests, drawing inspiration from the idea of hierarchy-free relationships between different species.
The painter interweaves organic forms in vibrant colors with abstracted fundamental structures of nature and establishes connections between them. This gives rise to rhythmically accentuated and flowing “scores”—much like in music—that seem to be in a state of constant motion and transformation.

Carolina Goedeke’s paintings are always created outdoors, on the shores of the Ligurian Sea. In her painting process, she explores the connection between human beings and their energy systems with the structures of nature—such as ocean currents, the growth of plants, and the power of fire. This connection to natural phenomena and her focus on uplifting energies are conveyed through her paintings to the viewer.

Carolina Goedeke works with color as an immediate force that always forms the initial impulse of her artistic exploration. In her paintings, color not only fills a space but creates it. In this way, the painting becomes a field of energy by ceasing to be mere matter and becoming a presence.
The artist worked as a professional dancer and choreographer for 15 years; her painting process is very physical and reminiscent of performance art:
She paints for hours in a meditative state on the cliffs of the Mediterranean, even in difficult weather conditions.

Goedeke’s videos, in which she presents classical Indian dance in a contemporary urban context, as well as her clarinet performances, complete her artistic universe.
In her art, she places the relationship between the audience and her works at the center by opening “doors” to a multisensory and meditative space that fosters dialogue between the audience and her works.
